Tailored for legal professionals and companies engaged in data licensing, this webinar will explore key opportunities and challenges in the evolving data economy, focusing on regulatory frameworks and contractual implications.

The webinar is organized by LES Italy in collaboration with the LESI Innovation Trends Committee and the Patent & Technology Licensing Committee of LES South Africa.

Speakers’ bio

Arved Waltemathe, Attorney-at-law, Waltemathe Anwaltskanzlei

Dr. Arved Waltemathe, LL.M. (LSE) is a German attorney-at-law, who started his career more than 20 years ago with Lovells and founded his own boutique law firm in 2006. He advises on agreements and dispute resolution re. IT projects and technology transfer, including software, data and AI licensing. His clients are mainly multinational corporations in the health care, software, medical devices and automotive industry, respectively. Since more than 15 years he is bar-certified specialist for intellectual property law.


Annarita Nicoletto, Legal Counsel, EPFL

Annarita is a qualified lawyer with over 15 years of international experience, specializing in legal guidance for high-tech industries. She works primarily in the fields of digital technologies, AI, and scientific research, partnering with interdisciplinary teams to drive innovation.

She began her career focusing on business and IP/IT law. As Web 2.0 emerged, she shifted her attention to data-driven business models.

Annarita served long term as the in-house legal counsel for Blue Brain, a top-ranked neuroscience research centre at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), where she expanded her expertise in the areas of neuroscience, big data, digital models, and supercomputing.  She graduated from the University of Padova in Italy and holds an LL.M. in IP Law from the University of Edinburgh and another LL.M. in International Business Law from the University of Zurich.


Madelein Kleyn, Chief Legal and Intellectual Property Officer, Omnisient

Dr. Madelein Kleyn is a Registered South African Patent attorney. She has more than 30 years experience as in- house IP counsel that includes 17 years at Sasol Limited an International petrochemical company, 12 years at Oro Agri International Limited (now Rovensa Next) an international agri company, followed by 4 years as director of Technology Transfer at Innovus, Stellenbosch University. She is presently the Chief Intellectual Property and Legal Officer at Omnisient (Pty) Ltd, a fintech start up specialising in privacy enhancing software and the licensing and monetization of data.

Madelein is also the CEO and founder of Mad K IP Consulting (Pty) Ltd which core business is advisor services relating to IP strategy, IP protection mechanisms, commercial aspects of IP.

Madelein holds the following qualifications:

  • BSc Chem Eng, BProc, LLB, LLM (Tax law), PhD (Intellectual Property law)
  • Attorney of the High Court of South Africa
  • Registered South African patent attorney
  • Registered Technology Transfer Professional
