International Technology Transfer – Licensing and ADR

Milan, 28 November 2017, h 9.30 a.m.

Facoltà di Scienze Politiche, Economiche e Sociali
Via Conservatorio 7, Milano
Sala Lauree

Organized by LES Italy and the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center, the Seminar aims to bring together speakers from industry, research organizations and legal practice to present their extensive experience at the frontline of IP licensing and technology transfer in different fields (mechanical, sport goods, internet of things ect.), and to promote the understanding of participants of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) options for the resolution of technology disputes.

The Seminar will focus on IP licensing and technology transfer as well as on the conduct of mediation and arbitration procedures, with particular reference to the practical case application of the WIPO Mediation, Arbitration and Expedited Arbitration Rules in international IP and in particular licensing disputes.

The format of the Seminar will consist of presentations by the speakers, in English, with Q&A opportunities and a simulated mediation case study in the licensing field. After completion of the Seminar, participants will have a better understanding of the contractual framework and best practices in technology-based transactions and collaborations, as well as the benefits and limitations of ADR in IP disputes as compared to other dispute resolutions options, in particular court litigation. In addition, they will obtain practical information about the role of the WIPO Center in ADR proceedings, the WIPO Rules and WIPO model clauses.

The Seminar will include the following subjects:

  • Negotiation and Enforcement of License Agreements - the View of the Industry
  • Negotiation and Enforcement of Research and Development Agreements - the View of the Research Institution
  • Sport Goods Licensing and Distribution
  • Internet of Things: Patent Liability, Enforcement and Licensing
